Improving People's Livelihood, Benefiting the Community

Grace Charity Foundation believes that improving quality of life extends beyond education alone. Access to healthcare, clean water, safe transportation and a healthy environment all play an essential role in building stronger and more resilient communities.

To address these needs, the Foundation supports a range of livelihood projects that improve living conditions and promote sustainable community development in underserved regions.

Rural Healthcare

When Grace Charity volunteers first visited remote rural communities, they found that many residents had limited access to basic medical services.

To help address this challenge, the Foundation began supporting the construction of rural clinics and medical stations since 2007 and over 330 units has been built. As local needs evolved, the programme expanded to include larger community health centres, improving access to healthcare for people living in remote areas.

Clean Water Projects

Prolonged droughts in Gansu and Ningxia provinces have left many communities without reliable access to clean water.

In 2010, Grace Charity funded the construction of household water storage facilities and larger water infrastructure projects, helping bring safe and reliable water supplies to villages in need.

Bridges and Roads

Reliable transport is essential for education, healthcare and economic opportunity.

After witnessing the transportation challenges faced by rural communities, Grace Charity began supporting the construction of bridges and roads to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and contribute to long-term local development.

Afforestation and Desertification Control

Environmental sustainability has become an increasingly important part of Grace Charity's work. In 2023, the Foundation launched afforestation and desertification control projects in Minqin and Linze Counties in Gansu Province. These initiatives aim to restore degraded land, combat desertification and support the long-term ecological resilience of the region.  Trees (Saxaul) were successfully planted on over 3,800 acres desert land.

Our Impact

From 2000 to the end of 2026, Grace Charity Foundation contributed more than HK$40 million towards projects that improve people's livelihoods across Mainland China.

Serve Hong Kong

While Grace Charity Foundation has long been committed to supporting communities in Mainland, it has also expanded its efforts to serve people in Hong Kong.

Beginning in 2010, volunteers organised a variety of fundraising initiatives, including Christmas charity fairs in TsimShaTsui East and charity cycling events. These activities not only raised funds for charitable projects but also encouraged greater public participation in community service.

In 2014, the Foundation officially established the Serve Hong Kong Group to provide practical support to vulnerable members of the local community, particularly the elderly, people with disabilities and individuals with special needs. Beyond providing financial and material assistance, the programme seeks to encourage independence, strengthen confidence and promote a culture of compassion and mutual support. 

Our Work

Household Support and Environmental Protection

The Foundation receives donated furnitures, household appliances and essential home furnishings and help to distribute to individuals and families in need. By giving usable items a second life, the programme also contributes to environmental sustainability through reuse and waste reduction.

Community Activities

Grace Charity sponsors community programmes and events for vulnerable groups by providing funding and awards that encourage participation, broaden horizons and promote confidence, communication and social inclusion.

Caring for the Elderly

Volunteers regularly visit residential care homes to spend time with elderly residents, offering companionship, conversation and emotional support. During these visits, volunteers also present small gifts and organise complimentary haircuts for the residents.

Grace Charity Academic Achievement Award

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many students experienced significant challenges as prolonged school closures affected both their learning and emotional well-being. In response, Grace Charity Foundation established the Academic Achievement Award in 2022.

Unlike traditional academic awards that recognise only top-performing students, this programme celebrates personal improvement and perseverance. Each recipient receives a certificate and a cash award in recognition of their hard work and progress.

Since its launch, the programme has expanded to secondary schools across five districts in Hong Kong and has received strong support from principals, teachers and parents.

Many educators have commented that the award recognises not only academic results, but also Students’ commitment, resilience and continuous effort. Likewise, recipients have shared that receiving recognition for their improvement has strengthened their confidence and motivated them to continue striving towards their goals.

Building on positive response to this Achievement Award, Grace Charity Foundation plans to expand the programme to additional schools and districts, allowing more students to benefit from this encouragement and recognition. Continuous donation in support of this programme is highly appreciated.

The "English Teachers Training Program" was conducted for a total of 140 English teachers in Majiang County, Guizhou Province in August 2017. The project was made possible through the help and liaison of Grace Charity Foundation Ltd and the generous donation from a lady who prefers to remain anonymous。。。

Origin

In 1994, a group of volunteers participated in helping after a devastating flood in southern China. Upon discovering the poor living conditions in the surrounding area, the volunteers established a school in Guangxi province in an effort to raise local standards of living.

 Later Development

Over ten years spanning from 1994 to 2004, thanks to the generous support of individuals and organizations, our volunteers helped establish almost 400 schools in remote areas of Guangxi, Yunnan, Jiangxi, Shaanxi and Guizhou provinces.

Starting from 1997, focus has been on Guizhou, China's poorest province, helping to establish schools and subsidizing financially struggling students. 

In order to work more effectively, Grace Charity Ltd. was founded by our volunteers in June 2000. (Tax Free File No. 91/6177)

Introduction of Grace Charity

Why focus on Guizhou?

A study in 1996 found Guizhou to be especially stricken by poverty and few charities worked there. The educational programs in the mountainous areas were found to be outdated, children not attending school were many, and poverty was widespread. Our organization decided to concentrate our resources on improving the education for children in Guizhou.

After years of hard work, we continued to request for other organizations in Hong Kong to work in Guizhou. A portion of the education facilities were improved and some students who could not originally attend school are now able to. However, the environment in Guizhou is difficult to live in and the education of the poorer regions are still backward. Through us and other cooperating charities, three hundred new facilities were built in Guizhou. Yet the number of facilities needed in the province are still many. Hence, our organization has decided to focus on Guizhou for the time being.

From 2000 up to first quarter of 2014, our organization has supported a total of:

• Subsidizing building of schools and dormitories - over 1,262
• Subsidizing building of medical stations and clinics - 272
• Students attending Senior Secondary Schools including those with continued aid - 20,301
• Students attending Teacher institutes - 6,464
• Students attending Tertiary Education institutions including those with continued aid throughout their college years - 5,123
• Students of Orphanage and in special hardship - 9,371
• Teachers in special hardship - 1,668
• Elderly living alone - 13 elderly home; 129 individuals
• Primary and Junior Secondary Students in Poverty - 16,729 (This item had terminated in 2007)
• Schools receiving books to enrich the content of their libraries - 1,468
